BSides Las Vegas Press Policy
To be considered for a complimentary press pass for BSidesLV, the applicant must cover the information technology industry on a regular basis by writing reports or publishing relevant articles on the industry that are not confidential.
At the event, you will be required to present a business card, government issued picture ID, and proof of confirmation from a BSidesLV Press Liaison. For last minute, on-site applicants, we will require the previously mentioned business card and ID, plus visual proof of recent security coverage within the previous six months time.
Preregistration is strongly encouraged due to limited space. Should you attempt to attain credentials on-site, we cannot guarantee complimentary media admission.
ONSITE EXPECTATIONS:
BSidesLV attendees take personal privacy very seriously. As a result we ask that you do the same at all times when attending and publishing information about the conference and the events surrounding it. If these expectations aren’t met, your access to the con will likely be revoked and future access to the conference may be limited.
The following guidelines should be followed at all times by individuals attending on a press pass:
Identify yourself:
● Wear the press pass provided at all times
● Give a verbal introduction of who you are/where you work
Ask Permission:
● Ensure you have the permission from anyone you photograph, record or quote. This includes those in the background. “Crowd shots” are frowned upon.
● No photo/video/audio recording in any of the presentation rooms without prior approval through the BSidesLV Press Liaison department.
● If you’ve accidentally taken a picture without permission, delete it. If you are asked by an attendee to delete/blur a picture they did not give you permission to take, do so immediately.
Interviews/Access to Speakers:
This can be arranged through the BSidesLV Press Liaison department. Escorts and interview space can be made available by request. “Candid” interviews are discouraged to avoid time crunches and crowd blockage.
**Special Note: No interviews, photographs, access to speakers within, or Press access of any kind, is allowed in the Underground Track.**
To register your interest to attend BSidesLV as a member of the press, please fill out the Press Application (available after 01Mar).
BSides Las Vegas Photo/Video/Recording Device Policy
Bsides Las Vegas is an open space, where everyone participating should feel free to share their ideas, stories, and any other passion they pursue. With that said, privacy is a big concern in the hacker community, as well as with the public at large, and we need to establish a clear set of boundaries when it comes to balancing privacy and capturing moments.
Using your best effort and judgement, please try to ensure you have permission from anyone you photograph or record. This includes, but is not limited to, anyone in the background of your shot. For the record, “crowd shots” from the front (facing the crowd) are strongly discouraged.
IN THE UNDERGROUND TRACK, THERE IS TO BE NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEO RECORDINGS UNLESS PERMISSION IS OBTAINED FROM THE SPEAKER THEMSELVES. THIS EXEMPTION EXCLUDES PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEO OF PARTICIPANTS IN THE UNDERGROUND TRACK.
If you’ve taken a picture without permission, delete it. If you’re asked by a participant to delete or blur a picture they did not give you permission to take, and you are on BSides Las Vegas property, do so immediately.
We require press photographers to adhere to this policy as well. A press badge is not a pass to break these rules and guidelines.
Upon a first infraction, you will receive one warning from BSides Las Vegas staff. Upon a second infraction you will be asked to give up your device to BSides Las Vegas Safety Operations for secure storage for the duration of your stay at the event; or you’ll be asked to leave the event with your device – your choice. You may return to the event once you have deposited your device somewhere else.
There are official BSides Las Vegas Photographers. They will have professional cameras and staff badges. They are aware of this policy and are not exempt, except in cases where they have been requested to document activities, official parties, or presentations for BSides Las Vegas purposes.
If you believe that anyone is breaking these rules please bring it to the attention of BSides Las Vegas Safety Operations or any BSides Las Vegas staff member.
AS A REMINDER TO THE MEDIA: THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PRESS ALLOWED IN THE UNDERGROUND TRACK.
Thank you for your cooperation!
